Professor Dr. Farzana Islam, MSS, PhD, DPhil 

Professor Farzana Islam, a staunch professional working for around three decades on the equity of women is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, Dhaka which is the only residential public university in Bangladesh. She is the first woman to have been elected to the post of Vice-Chancellor in the country. Professor Islam has been working in the field of higher education. She is a prolific researcher working on ethnographic research on poor informal sector women workers of Dhaka city, early marriage, domestic violence, women’s empowerment, Social exclusion, Dynamisms of Dalit communities, Social aspects of climate change, and urban poverty. and published internationally. To her credit she has about two dozen peer reviewed articles and monographs published in country and internationally.
