Prof. Shah Monir Hossain: Biography

Prof. Shah Monir Hossain MBBS, MPhil, MPH, FCPS
Prof. Hossain is one of those very few professionals who has a balanced career between clinical medicine (Pathology) and Public Health. He is now a full time Public Health practitioner. He worked in the public sector for about 30+ years moving up the ladder to become the Director General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfares, Government of Bangladesh and then retired. He has taught in several public Medical Colleges and earned laurels of being an excellent teacher. At that time published more than a dozen peer reviewed articles. After retirement from the Government service worked as Senior Consultant, for USAID, in the development of the Population and Nutrition Strategic Development Plan (HPNSDP) in 2011. He was then a Senior National Advisor, to FAO-UN, Bangladesh, and at present working as a Consultant, WHO, Bangladesh country office to support EPI, DGHS, MoHFW. Working in the Public Health field he is currently the President of the Public Health Association of Bangladesh, one of the 8 Public Health Expert Advisors, DGHS, MOHFW and also a visiting Professor, Department of Public Health, North South University (NSU), Dhaka, Bangladesh.
